-The Story Behind Yura Necklace-
At art university, I was taught over and over again to come up with a concept first, and then make something based on it.
I always felt a strong sense of discomfort with that idea.
Do we really need to know what something means before we make it? Sometimes, I think, the meaning comes later.
Recently, I heard an artist say that people today tend to find meaning in everything. That really resonated with me.
When I started MIROOKA, and when I made the Kira Necklace, there was no concept to begin with. There was simply a feeling:
“I want to make this.”
For Yura, I wanted to return to that instinct.
“I want to make this shape.”
“I want to put these fabrics together.”
So I followed my eye and intuition, choosing and connecting the fabrics one by one.
I always name my pieces after I make them.
Yura comes from the Japanese word yura-yura, which describes the gentle movement of something swaying or drifting in the breeze.
To me, it means not trying to decide everything in advance, but allowing yourself to move naturally with the flow.
The world is complicated, ambiguous, and often beyond our control. Maybe we all need a little more yurayura—to trust our intuition and let things unfold.
And that is also how I wanted Yura to be.
Wear it long for a light, flowing look, or double it up for a little more volume.
Effortless and timeless. Simply put it on and go.
